The first three guides in the Education
Development Center, Inc. series, "Guiding Middle-Grades Curriculum
Decisions," are available at MiddleWeb at no cost.
To obtain a guide, simply click on the appropriate link. This link will
lead you to a page where you can download the preferred guide in sections
(Adobe Acrobat/PDF files). Some files are large. If you find that
your Internet connection and computer hardware or software are not up to
the task -- or you don't have the patience to download a series of PDF files
-- you can order copies from EDC by clicking on the "order" link.
If you'd like to find out more about the content and purpose of the guides,
we suggest that you download the first file for the guide or guides you
are interested in. This file includes a table of contents and a full introduction.
The series, developed with support from the Edna McConnell Clark and W.K.
Kellogg Foundations, is designed to assist middle-grades educators as they
help young adolescents to achieve high standards. The guides help educators
identify high-quality curriculum materials and make thoughtful curriculum
decisions in language arts, mathematics,
and science. Each guide addresses the content
of the curriculum and how it is taught; how the curriculum can engage all
students in learning and meet the developmental needs of individual students;
and what is required for successful curriculum implementation.
NOTICE: These guides have now been published by Heinemann. If you'd
like to purchase printed copies, contact the publisher at 800-225-5800 or

Arts, $18.00, Math,
$18.00, Science,
$21.00. You are still welcome to download the guides here at no cost.
